Sunday, February 6th was the Women in Horror Month edition of the Bleedfest film festival in Sherman Oaks. I was there with my short The Patchwork Monkey, which took home the inaugural Film Radar Award, presented by Raymond McDermott.
Bleedfest was created by Lis and Brenda Fies to give recognition to women who work in the otherwise male-dominated genre. For Women in Horror Month, there was an on-site blood drive, recognition of several prominent female directors in the genre, as well as four hours of kick-ass shorts and a feature film. Check out the Bleedfest site and this great blood drive PSA by Canada’s Soska Sisters below.
If you are a woman working in horror considering submitting your film to Bleedfest or Viscera Film Fest. If we all start supporting rather than competing with each other, who knows what a group of talented women can do!
